The canvas is primed and largely empty, though yesterday you blocked out several regions of the background around the divan.\n\n[[If you would like to take a look at the bell, turn to page 5|Bell]]\n[[If you would like to look in the bedroom, turn to page 99|Bedroom 1]]
The bedroom door opens. A figure silently enters, wearing a black velvet mask. It crosses the room and stands before you. Your eyes tentatively meet. A minute passes. \n\nIt draws a straight razor out of its pocket and opens it. Slitting its own throat, it lies down quietly on the divan.\n\nYou begin painting.\n\n[[continue|Painting]]
You rise from your seat and walk into the open bedroom. You lock the door behind you. There is a black velvet mask on the wall.\n\nYou lift the mask down from the wall and put it on. Your head spins for a moment. When you come to your senses you realize you have knocked the glass vase on your dresser onto the floor, and it has broken into hundreds of tiny pieces.\n\n[[continue|Restart]]
The bedroom door is locked from the inside.\n\n[[If you would like to look at the canvas, turn to page 16|Canvas]]\n[[If you would like to examine the bell, turn to page 5|Bell]]
Taking a deep breath, you tread heavily into your study. The light is perfect. Harsh sun skews down onto the divan through the row of skylights you recently had installed. The lit surfaces are all overblown, almost blue. You sink into the leather upholstered armchair in front of your desk and begin readying your painting supplies.\n\nYou are seated at an oak writing desk. On the desk are a blank canvas and a bronze bell. To your left is a door.\n\n[[If you would like to look at the canvas, turn to page 38|Canvas]]\n[[If you would like to examine the bell, turn to page 3|Bell]]\n[[If you would like to look in the bedroom, turn to page 99|Bedroom 1]]\n
The ten pound bronze bell is suspended from a wooden frame on your desktop. Next to it is a wooden mallet.\n\n[[If you would like to ring the bell, turn to page 0|Suicide]]\n[[If you would like to look at the canvas, turn to page 1|Canvas]]\n[[If you would like to look in the bedroom, turn to page 2|Bedroom 1]]\n
You carefully lift the mask down from the wall and put it on. \n\nThe bell chimes.\n[[Turn to page 1|Restart]]
You are seated at your kitchen table, working through a pot of tea. The past few days of preparation have completely drained you. Though sleep deprivation is beginning to affect your concentration, everything appears to be in order. As you finish your tea, you hear the sound of glass breaking in the bedroom.\n\nYou are seated at a table, on which rest a teapot, some crumpled papers, and a teacup. There is a closed door in front of you.\n\n[[If you stare at the teapot, turn to page 65|Teapot]]\n[[If you turn your head to look at the papers, turn to page 14|Papers]]\n[[If you would like to use the door, turn to page 2|Study]]
You are certain this is the work you will be remembered for.\n\n[[If you wish to enter the bedroom, turn to page 45|Enter Bedroom]]\n[[If you wish to look at the corpse, turn to page 64|Corpse]]
The model's face is completely covered by the velvet mask. The pharmaceuticals you ordered have succeeded in preventing the body from entering rigor mortis.\n\n[[If you wish to enter the bedroom, turn to page 58|Enter Bedroom]]\n[[If you wish to look at the painting, turn to page 12|Canvas 2]]\n
The tabletop is littered with crumpled bits of packing material.\n\n[[If you stare at the teapot, turn to page 65|Teapot]]\n[[If you would like to use the door, turn to page 8|Study]]
Seven Hours Pass
Time goes by. Sunlight sweeps across the room. Your nerves settle- you have all the time in the world to finish your work. The reclining model is obligingly still. When you are done, you sit up straight and breathe deeply.\n\nYou are seated at an oak writing desk. On the desk are a completed painting and a bronze bell. To your left is a door. Across from you is a masked corpse on a divan.\n\n[[If you wish to look at the painting, turn to page 21|Canvas 2]]\n[[If you wish to enter the bedroom, turn to page 47|Enter Bedroom]]\n[[If you wish to look at the corpse, turn to page 64|Corpse]]
The teapot is round and glossy. It is a slightly dim white with a green-grey tinge. Only a few drops of tea remain at the bottom.\n\n[[If you wish to look at the papers, turn to page 86|Papers]]\n[[If you would like to use the door, turn to page 3|Study]]
